Pregnant women get back pain. It’s a pretty well known fact now. In a recent study, 73% of women in their first to third trimesters of pregnancy report low back pain. What brings it on? Standing or sitting for a long time for 43.9%. Housework for 43.4%. If the pregnant woman had a urinary infection or higher disability score, the low back pain was worse. What helped them in this study? 51% improved with rest. (1) Young Chiropractic has some other approaches that Easley pregnant women find relieving as well.
Spinal manipulation works, too, in relieving pregnancy related back pain as well as back pain after the baby’s delivery. In a study of women aged 23 to 42 years, pain decreased from 7.3 to 2.0 as did disability compared to a control group whose pain only dropped from 7.0 to 6.5. Not a bad outcome for just 4 treatments over 8 weeks! (2) Young Chiropractic so enjoys treating our Easley pregnant ladies during their pregnancies and after their deliveries. Everyone is so happy!
As for obstretricians who take care of expectant mothers, 77% of those surveyed responded that chiropractic care was effective for some musculoskeletal complaints. 40% said they referred patients for chiropractic care. 56% were interested in learning more about chiropractic care. (3) Young Chiropractic is delighted with any opportunity to talk with our Easley medical colleagues about our place in healthcare and particularly chiropractic’s effectiveness in care for spinal conditions and spinal pain in Easley – pregnant or not – back pain sufferers.
Young Chiropractic excitedly shares the chiropractic spinal manipulation protocols of Cox Technic with interested parties. Cox Technic itself is gentle and relieving for anyone with back pain or neck pain. It is amazingly relieving for women with pregnancy-related back pain. It is also quite adaptable in positioning to accommodate a woman in her early pregnancy – lying on her stomach if that is comfortable – as well as much later in her pregnancy – lying on her side. One published report about a pregnant woman with sciatica (leg pain) shares that relief was noted after the first treatment with complete resolution of her subjective and objective findings after 8 visits.
